Your 2021 Samsung TV may get Xbox Game Pass and more game apps next week

Samsung is expanding its Gaming Hub by adding the cloud-based streaming app to some 2021 smart TV models starting next week. The service itself is getting more enticing, as the app will soon support 4K cloud game streaming at 60 frames per second (fps) on select games via Nvidia GeForce Now.

Samsung Gaming Hub launched this summer on the company’s line of 2022 smart TVs. At launch, the service allowed TV owners to stream games on their TV through cloud services like Xbox Game Pass and Amazon Luna. With its latest update, Samsung has made it clear that the service is only growing as it looks to retroactively put it in front of even more smart TV users.

Starting next week, Samsung Gaming Hub will be available on select 2021 model Samsung smart TVs. To check if your TV has access, you can head over to the Samsung App Store and download the hub next week. The company says it plans to roll out the service on more 2021 TVs throughout the year.

The service itself is getting some new features too. Chief among those is a new perk for Nvidia GeForce Now subscribers using the Gaming Hub. Within a few weeks, the app will allow players to cloud stream PC games on this TV in 4K and at 60 fps. Users will need a GeForce Now Premium membership to access those features, though.

The lineup of cloud services available on Samsung Gaming Hub will expand too. In 2023, Samsung plans to add Antstream Arcade and Blacknut to the service. Both are monthly subscription services that allow players to stream games, with Antstream offering a selection of retro titles like the original Mortal Kombat and Pac-Man.

Samsung looks to draw even more Gaming Hub users in by the end of the year thanks to a new holiday campaign. Through December 31, you can get an Xbox controller and three free months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate when you buy a Samsung QN85B, QN90B, QN95B,
QN800B, QN850B, QN900B or S95B.

Microsoft announced last year that it would be shutting down the Xbox 360 Marketplace at the end of July, but it's not over just yet. Xbox is running a massive fire sale on a number of games, with some going as low as $1.

Players won't be able to purchase any products through the storefront after it goes offline on July 29. While you can still download and play games you already own, you won't be able to watch movies or TV since the Movies & TV app will also stop working on that date. That means now is your last chance to fill up your library.

New Xbox Game Pass additions are looking quite wholesome

Xbox Game Pass looks a bit quiet for the rest of July, but looks can be deceiving. Three indies, a long-awaited action RPG, and a gorgeous genre mash-up are just some of the games that'll soon be available. However, Xbox is only announcing additions up to July 19.

There are some comforting games at the top of the list. First, we have Flock, an indie title that combines the joys of birdwatching and the fun of flying on the back of a giant bird (we assume it's fun). Is Xbox Game Pass really worth it anymore?

Xbox Game Pass is changing. On Tuesday night, Microsoft quietly announced that it was retooling its game subscription service. The change would bring new tiers, including one that doesn't feature "day one" releases, and a price hike to the Ultimate tier. Naturally, fans didn't take the news well. The decision has already been dissected by players who theorize that the end of Xbox's subscription service is nigh -- or at least that it's turning into a bum deal.

Are players overreacting over a couple of dollars or is there legitimacy to the doomsaying? It's likely a bit of both, but there's no doubt that Xbox Game Pass' value wanes with the new change. The question is whether or not it's still a good deal even if it's a pricier one. That's where things get complicated. What used to be a no-brainer for all Xbox players now feels like its geared toward a narrower audience. And I know for sure that I'm not the target anymore.
Is Xbox Game Pass worth it?
Let's recap what exactly is changing on Xbox's service. For starters, Xbox Game Pass for Console is going away for new subscribers. That will more or less be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Standard, a new tier that is missing one key perk: It will not feature "day one" games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Each remaining tier is getting a price hike. Xbox Game Pass PC will go from $10 to $12 per month, while Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will jump from $17 to $20 per month. Those are the tiers players will need to subscribe to in order to get "day one" games.
