Summary

  • Trilobe presents their first in-house manufacture movement, X-Nihilo, conceived and crafted in Paris.
  • The Trente-Deux collection reflects Trilobe’s roots, named after its workshop’s address.

Update 25/09: The subscription series has officially sold out, marking a strong debut for the collection. The launch phase introduced a strategic entry price of €16,500. With the initial series now fully pre-sold, the brand has announced it will move to a unified international pricing structure, set at €17,500 (excluding VAT).

At seven years old, Trilobe is a young brand. Founded in 2018 by 34-year-old Gautier Massonneau, Trilobe’s concept was focused on rethinking how we read time. Its first model, Les Matinaux, set the tone for a brand defined by bold design and French creativity. The unconventional was promised: off-center, rotating rings replaced traditional hands, where hours, minutes, and seconds traversed where they pleased within the round case.

Over the years, collections like Nuit Fantastique furthered this vision, blending mechanical ingenuity with architectural aesthetics. Today, Trilobe marked a milestone by establishing its own manufacture in Paris, uniting design, production, and assembly under one roof.

Trilobe Trent-Deuxe

Paris has long captivated the world with a charm that feels both timeless and elusive. It is not just the grand boulevards or Haussmann façades, but the rhythm of life lived between cafés, bookstalls, and hidden courtyards. The city invites one to linger over a glass of wine, to watch shadows stretch across the Seine, or to find poetry in the ordinary. This intimacy of experience, woven into its art, architecture, and philosophy, gives Paris its allure. People are drawn not only to its beauty, but to the sense that here, life can be both profound and daresay exquisitely simple. It’s for this reason that Massonneau wanted to establish a manufacture in Paris. By producing movements and cases under one roof, the Maison channels the artisanal energy of Paris, echoing a time when watchmakers, artists, and craftsmen worked side by side in light-filled workshops beneath the gambrel-style roofs. From where Trilobe’s manufacture is located, at 32, the team can glimpse the Opéra Garnier and Vendôme Column, a daily reminder of French artistry and tradition.

Introducing the Trente-Deux collection

The new Trente-Deux collection is so named with sentimental meaning for Trilobe. In English, it’s translated to the number 32, the workshop’s address in Paris, and also the internal project code used for three years of development.

X-Nihilo caliber

Giving life to this new collection is X-Nihilo, Trilobe’s first in-house movement. It adopts an open island design spotlighting the balance wheel, while bridges, screws, and plates showcase a dialogue of finishes, from raw graining to black polishing.

The movement measures 35.2mm in diameter and just 7mm thick, its construction comprising 218 crafted components and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve. Its openworked oscillating weight (made of tungsten) brings visual depth, beating at a steady frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz).

The “Paris – France” engraving is inspired by vintage Parisian street signs

The bracelet features satin-brushed and tapered beveled links, with the interlinks polished to a mirror finish

These are all housed within a 39.5mm case at 10.15mm thick, framed by a fluted bezel and dressed with an integrated bracelet featuring tapering satin-brushed links and mirror-polished interlinks.

Trilobe’s new manufacture marks a turning point not only for the brand but also for French watchmaking, which has historically ceded ground to Switzerland. Is this an indication of a France reclaiming its horological voice? Time can only tell.
