As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, Audemars Piguet is shining a spotlight on two  of its most storied traditions: the continued evolution of its perpetual calendar and natural stone dials.

For its 150th anniversary, Audemars Piguet has unveiled three perpetual calendar models at 38mm, the smallest diameter ever for this complication in both the Royal Oak and Code 11.59 collections. Traditionally seen in larger, 41mm cases, the perpetual calendar now finds a more versatile and ergonomic home, powered by two new movements, the Calibres 7136 and 7138, both protected by five patents.

Selfwinding calibre 7136 provides 55 hours of power reserve

The complication remains on a crown-operated correction system, eliminating the need for case-side correctors. This makes adjusting the day, date, month, leap year, and moon phase intuitive, without fiddly tools or risk of damaging the mechanism. Four crown positions control the watch, including a patented 2’ position for correcting the day and moon phase. Both calibers are slim at just 4.1mm, with refined finishing visible through a sapphire caseback, including Côtes de Genève and a 22K gold rotor.

The new 38mm perpetual calendar is fashioned in three references. The first, a Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet pairs an 18K pink gold case with a handcrafted green guilloché dial by artisan Yann Von Kaenel, its embossed concentric motif adding depth and radiance, complemented by a matching alligator strap. Followed by two iterations for the Royal Oak, in stainless steel, highlighting the collection’s sporty elegance with its light blue Grande Tapisserie dial and snailed counters, while the pink gold exudes refinement through a warm beige dial with blue moon phase, set against a full pink-gold case and bracelet. Across all three, symmetry and legibility remain paramount, enhanced by reorganized counters and a moon phase display inspired by NASA imagery.

Today, as tastes shift toward wearable and unisex proportions, these perpetual calendars carry forward that spirit. Limited to 150 pieces each, with anniversary engravings and a vintage “Audemars Piguet” signature on the moon phase.

Audemars Piguet unveils three new limited-edition references in the Code 11.59 collection, each showcasing a gemstone dial paired with a flying tourbillon. Available in ruby root, blue sodalite, and green malachite, the trio brings eternity, energy, and elegance into a compact 38mm form.

Stone dials have been part of Audemars Piguet’s design repertoire since the 1960s, but their creation requires painstaking craftsmanship. Each wafer-thin slice must be cut, polished, and secured without cracking, while retaining the unique veining and tonal variations that make every dial one of a kind. Ruby root, sourced from Tanzania, is associated with vitality; sodalite from Brazil represents calm and clarity; while Zambian malachite symbolizes growth and transformation. 

One can’t dismiss the technical feat of including a flying tourbillon in a 38mm case. Traditionally reserved for larger watches, the complication takes center stage at 6 o’clock, appearing to float above the stone dial thanks to its cage being supported only from below. The watch runs on the Calibre 2968, Audemars Piguet’s ultra-thin, selfwinding flying tourbillon movement measuring just 3.4mm thick. First introduced in 2022, the caliber uses a titanium cage with a peripheral drive for reduced weight and higher efficiency, ensuring precision while maintaining a graceful presence on the wrist.

The choice of gold case metals amplifies the dial’s character — white gold for ruby root, pink gold for sodalite, and yellow gold for malachite.
