Summary

  • MB&F is giving away 20 unique timepieces through two separate raffles exclusively for its Tribe members and M.A.D.Editions fans.
  • Both anniversary editions share a cohesive design language with stainless steel cases, silver-black-blue colourways, and the “Fortune Favours the Bold” engraving.

MB&F marks two decades of horological daring not with a sales pitch, but with a thank-you. Twenty rare anniversary watches — split between the LM101 Longhorn and M.A.D.1S — will be raffled off to collectors and fans. This gesture, as founder Maximilian Büsser describes, isn’t a marketing stunt but a heartfelt thank-you to those who’ve kept MB&F’s dream alive through two decades of experimentation. “Among the few regrets I have from the last twenty years,” Büsser says, “one is that it was incredibly difficult to be generous when we were in survival mode. This anniversary allows us to say thank you to our entire community.”

The initiative underscores MB&F’s ethos of connection and collaboration — the same spirit that built its “Friends” network of artisans and collectors who have supported the brand since its founding in 2005.

Who gets a chance to win one of the 20th Anniversary watches?

The 20 anniversary timepieces — split evenly between the LM101 Longhorn and M.A.D.1S 20th Anniversary models — will be raffled to two distinct groups that have defined MB&F’s journey. The first being The Tribe, MB&F’s community owners and collectors, and M.A.D.Editions fans, who’ve participated in previous raffles for the brand’s more accessible creations.

LM101 Longhorn 20th Anniversary Edition is one of two watches that MB&F Tribe members can win in the raffle

Each group will have a separate draw — ten winners from each — supervised by a bailiff to ensure fairness. The LM101 Longhorn winners will even be flown to Geneva to collect their pieces at the MB&F M.A.D.House.

LM101 Longhorn 20th Anniversary Edition

Launched originally in 2014, the Legacy Machine 101 (LM101) is one of MB&F’s most compact and refined creations. At 40mm, it distills the essence of traditional mechanical watchmaking — time, power reserve, and the “flying” balance wheel — into an architectural, three-dimensional form.

The manual-winding movement was designed in collaboration with independent master Kari Voutilainen. It is hand-finished with meticulous detail, from polished bevels to sunburst rhodium-plated bridges, and features MB&F’s signature floating balance wheel at the center.

The “Longhorn” moniker refers to the model’s distinctive extended lugs, used only on very special editions such as the LM1 Longhorn Pièce Unique sold for charity in 2021 and the recent LM Perpetual and Sequential Flyback Longhorn models.

For the 20th anniversary, the LM101 Longhorn receives a fresh but familiar aesthetic: a sunburst rhodium-plated dial plate, black subdials, and blued hands, echoing the brand’s milestone color palette of silver, black, and blue.

Flip the watch over and you’ll find a special engraving on the sapphire caseback:
“Fortune Favours the Bold.” A fitting motto for a brand that has spent two decades redefining what independent watchmaking can be.

M.A.D.1S 20th Anniversary Edition

The M.A.D.Editions story began in 2021 as a side project to thank “Friends” and Tribe members with something playful and accessible. What started as a niche thank-you gift quickly grew into a favorable collection.

The first M.A.D.1 pieces struck out with their captivating spinning rotor and side-mounted time display. Over time, the brand evolved into a standalone entity — M.A.D.Editions — even winning a GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) award, namely the “Challenge Watch Prize” for the M.A.D.1 Red.

The M.A.D.1S 20th Anniversary marks the next chapter. Built on the slimmer M.A.D.1S platform, it features refined proportions, a single rotating cylinder display, and a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101 movement as its base. Aesthetically, it mirrors the LM101 Longhorn — a deliberate connection between MB&F’s high horology and its more democratic sibling. Roman numerals make their first-ever appearance on a M.A.D.1 time display, while a subtle blue ring under the bezel complements the Longhorn’s blued hands. The watch comes on a light brown leather strap, combining casual character with elegance. The caseback engraving again reads: “Fortune Favours the Bold.”

The Latin phrase audentes fortuna iuvat — “Fortune favours the bold” — has been a guiding sentiment throughout MB&F’s 20-year evolution.

From launching sculptural timepieces like the HM1 in 2007 that challenged every design norm, to weathering financial and creative risks in the early years, MB&F has always bet on its vision. The brand’s survival and success prove that in the world of independent horology, courage is often the only currency that matters.

MB&F on building its legacy

In its first decade, MB&F was a small, daring collective struggling to survive in a market dominated by heritage giants. Its pieces — mechanical sculptures inspired by sci-fi, architecture, and art — were not designed to appeal to everyone. But they connected deeply with a certain kind of collector: the imaginative, the rebellious, the ones who saw time as art.

That connection has since grown into a global community — “The Tribe”. Alongside them, the M.A.D.Editions community has become a bridge for new generations of watch lovers to experience the brand’s philosophy without the six-figure price tags.

If MB&F’s first two decades were about experimentation and survival, the next chapter promises evolution and expansion — but always on its own terms. The LM101 Longhorn and M.A.D.1S 20th Anniversary models may be rare, but the sentiment behind them — creativity, community, and courage — will continue to define MB&F’s approach.

Büsser sums it up best: “Our dozens of Machines born over the last two decades allowed us to do what we love most: to create, to transform ideas into reality, and to build a community. This 20th Anniversary is our way of saying thank you.”
